Syria has accused Turkey of providing supporting fire and logistical help to enable “terrorist groups” to capture the Syrian city of Idlib and the strategic town of Jisr al-Shughour, state television said on Tuesday.
“The terrorist groups’ attacks on Idlib city and Jisr al-Shughour... were carried out by logistical and fire support from the Turkish army,” Syrian television quoted the foreign ministry as saying.
“This is direct Turkish aggression on Syria.”
Syria has recently stepped up its accusations that Turkey is aiding opposition fighters in its civil war and allowing thousands of foreign militant fighters into the country.
Ankara has rejected such charges.
A potential suicide-bomber was arrested in the northern city of Tripoli last week as he was headed to Syria where he was set to prepare himself for carrying out a bombing against a Shiite target in Lebanon, reported al-Akhbar newspaper on Wednesday.
Arrested by the General Security, Mohammed al-Aqla, 22, said he had joined the al-Qaida-affiliated al-Nusra Front in Syria.
He was expected to meet up with the group, which would determine the target of his suicide-bombing in Lebanon.
The suspect confessed to belonging to the group and aspiring to follow in the footsteps of Palestinian suicide-bombers, Adnan al-Mohammed and Nidal al-Mougheer, who both hailed from al-Bisariyeh camp.
Mohammed had carried the bombing in front of the Iranian embassy in Beirut on November 19, 2013 and al-Mougheer had carried out the bombing in front of the Iranian Cultural Center on February 19, 2014.

A member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) was reportedly detained by the organization for seeking to carry out security attacks in Beirut's Southern Suburbs – Dahiyeh and the coastal town of Naameh, around 20 kilometers south of Beirut.
According to al-Joumhouria newspaper published on Tuesday, Mohammed Mohammed, previously served at the organization's base in Naameh, its most prominent military position in Lebanon, which also contains a quantity of missiles.
The PFLP-GC had expressed willingness to hand over Mohammed to the Lebanese Army Intelligence but is awaiting for a decision by the group's secretary-general Ahmed Jibril.

Syria's Defense Minister General Fahd al-Freij began a visit Tuesday to key ally Iran to discuss cooperation between the two countries' armies, Syria's official news agency SANA said.
The trip to Tehran comes after a series of recent military losses for President Bashar Assad's regime, which is battling an uprising that began more than four years ago.
During the two-day visit, Freij and his Iranian counterpart will discuss "strengthening coordination and cooperation between the two allied militaries particularly in tackling terrorism and common challenges in the region."
The Syrian government labels all those seeking Assad's overthrow "terrorists".
The Syrian conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests but spiraled into a war after a regime crackdown.

Jumblat on Anniversary of Syrian Withdrawal: We Look forward to Army that Controls War, Peace Decisions- Naharnet
Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat hoped on the tenth anniversary of the withdrawal of Syrian troops from Lebanon for the implementation of the Baabda Declaration that would grant the army complete power over decisions of war and peace.
He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “We look forward to the day when we celebrate the existence of a single central authority that oversees all others.”
“We look forward to the presence of an army that alone has the power of war and peace,” noted the MP.
This can be achieved through the actual implementation of the Baabda Declaration, he explained.
“It is time to once again prevent Lebanon from being an open ground for regional interests,” stated Jumblat.

Damascus (AFP) - Syrian authorities will allow citizens abroad, including refugees who fled the war, to obtain passports without an intelligence service review for the first time, Syria's Al-Watan newspaper said on Sunday.
The daily, which is close to the government, said the move would "create an appropriate climate" for consultations in Geneva next month on the possibility of renewed peace talks.
It also noted that the fees for the new procedures -- which are being doubled -- would be "an important source of foreign exchange".
The newspaper said the new measures were detailed in a document sent on Thursday to Syrian embassies around the world.
This authorised embassies "to issue or renew passports for Syrians abroad without having to go through the department of emigration and passports in Damascus", Al-Watan reported.

A loose alliance of Islamist rebel groups seized control of a northwest Syrian city on Saturday, officials said, opening a pathway into Syrian government strongholds on the Mediterranean Sea.
The rebel factions overran the city of Jisr al-Shughur, 55 miles southwest of Aleppo, after a punishing four-day campaign against government forces that made use of suicide bombers, mortars and explosive devices.
The operation, dubbed the Battle of Victory, was spearheaded by the Islamist alliance that calls itself the Army of Conquest and includes the Al Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front.

The United Nations envoy to Syria said on Friday he will begin meeting in May with the country's government, opposition groups, and regional powers including Iran to assess by the end of June whether there is any hope brokering an end to the war.
Staffan de Mistura briefed the U.N. Security Council on the latest bid to find a political solution to the 4-year conflict that has killed some 220,000 people, displaced an estimated 7.6 million and forced nearly 4 million to flee the country.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asked de Mistura earlier this month to "focus much more to re-launch a political process" after his attempt to broker a local truce in the northern city of Aleppo failed to materialize.
"There is nothing new telling us today that the political process will succeed or not," de Mistura told reporters. "We will start in early May and we will be meeting one after the other, everyone. Not together, separately."
"By the end of June we should hopefully be in the position of reassessing whether there is any convergence on issues of substance or not," de Mistura said, adding that he will report his findings to Ban.
He said Iran would be invited as it was a major player in the region and had influence in Syria. Ban withdrew a last minute invitation to Iran to Syria peace talks in January last year after the Syrian opposition threatened to boycott.
"The U.N. and myself have the right and will be inviting everyone, including Iran," de Mistura said.
Other key world powers would also be consulted, but not the militant groups Islamic State or Nusra Front, which are classified as "terrorist organizations," U.N. spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said earlier on Friday in Geneva. Some of those present at the talks would be able to communicate with them, he added.

The presidential elections were postponed once again after parliament failed for the 22nd time to meet the required quorum to hold the polls.
Speaker Nabih Berri postponed the elections to May 13.
MTV reported that 44 lawmakers were present at the session.
Lebanon has been without a president since May when the term of Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.
Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise presidential candidate have thwarted the polls.
The Loyalty to the Resistance bloc of Hizbullah and the Change and Reform bloc of Michel Aoun have been boycotting the elections.
(Reuters) - Russia is arming Iraq and Syria to help them fight Islamic State, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday, calling the radical militant group the main threat to his own country's security.
"Islamic State is our main enemy at the moment. If only because hundreds of Russian citizens, hundreds of Europeans, hundreds of Americans fight alongside IS," he said in an interview with three radio stations. "They are already coming back... and to enjoy themselves could stage vile acts at home."
Russia has criticized air strikes by a U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State positions in Syria and Iraq, and encouraged Washington to work with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the battle against IS.
"We are helping both Iraq and Syria, possibly more effectively than anyone else, by providing weapons to their armies and security forces," Lavrov said, without giving details of the weapons.
Moscow faces an Islamist insurgency in the mainly Muslim North Caucasus region and President Vladimir Putin has warned that other countries could use radical Islam to try to weaken Russia.
