Day ten of the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) offensive in the Yarmouk Camp turned out to be their last day on the offensive, as the Palestinian militias inside the district joined forces to counter the radical militant force and their ally from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra.”
An agreement between the Hamas-affiliated militia”Aknef Beit Al-Maqdis” and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) was put in place to combat the ISIS militants in the southern part of Yarmouk Camp – both groups agreed to work with the Syrian Arab Army’s Palestinian branch – the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – in order to restore security to the district.
Also involved in the agreement were small Palestinian militias operating inside Yarmouk Camp, including Fatah Al-Intifada and Free Palestine Liberation Army (defectors from the PLA).
As a result of their agreement, the Palestinian militias were able to regain control of half of the Yarmouk Camp after fierce clashes with ISIS and Jabhat Al-Nusra at Morocco Street, Libya Street, Palestine Street, Yarmouk Roundabout, Loubya Street, 30th Street, and the Palestine National Hospital.
